"You work to make a living, you give to make a life."
Honduras has been in the grips of what could be termed as a crime & hunger epidemic. At 86 murders per 100,000 residents, it is the murder capital of the world. At the root of this is a stagnant economy and an unbridled U.S. appetite for cocaine and other vices. Honduras is a centerpiece in the world of narcotics, arms and people trafficking- bringing gangs and corruption to the forefront and stunting the growth of legitimate enterprise.
On the bright side, the government is one of the most willing and ambitious in terms of social programs for the hungry. Recently I was lucky enough to photograph Christian Courtin-Clarins and Lauren Bush as they visited various schools and institions aiming to aleve the problem of hunger and malnutrition in Honduras and central america. I was inspired by the families and officials who are so wholly committed to maximizing the potential of Honduras. This trip has made me reexamine our corporate goals on many levels, so for the month of June, Izola will be donating 10% of all online sales to the World Food Programme
